Spring Cleaning and Detox

Spring is here!  Spring is typically the time of cleansing and regeneration in alternative medicine, including TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).

During winter, people eat more prepared and heavy fatty foods and fewer fresh fruits and vegetables because they may not be readily available in their grocery stores. Many of the available foods that are not organically grown contain pesticides that can be stored in your liver and need to be flushed out during a spring cleaning or detoxification.

The Environmental Working Group has published the 2013 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce.™ This list contains the 12 foods most likely to contain pesticides. It is best to eat these foods organically grown, but if you eat them and can’t buy organic, please do some cleansing and/or detoxing. (Many pesticides accumulate in the liver so cleansing and detoxifying is in order if you eat these foods from a commercial grocery store that are not organic.)

There Is Help

Many foods are known to clear toxins (including pesticides) from the liver and regenerate the body.

Beet root can remove toxins from the liver and provide red blood cells with more oxygen, which gives you more energy. New research is now showing that beet root can also lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Dandelion root can help purify the blood and remove toxins. This is an ancient method of spring cleaning or liver detoxification for any time of the year.

Parsley and alfalfa are two herbs high in chlorophyll that can help regenerate all parts of the body including the liver and blood. Alfalfa has been used traditionally for reducing the effects of arteriosclerosis, but is most noted for giving energy and helping with women’s problems. Parsley tea and/or poultices have often been used to reduce kidney stones. Chlorophyll is an excellent carrier of oxygen and can often help when there is air pollution or other toxic fumes preventing the full uptake of oxygen. It’s essential to use products with chlorophyll when you are visiting a higher altitude.

Now is the time to cleanse and regenerate your body and remove the accumulated toxins from a long winter. Several Sunrider® products contain these cleansing and regenerative foods and nutrients.  For spring cleaning, you might want to look into MetaBalance44®, Dandelion Root, and Evergreen®.
